It’s the perfect time of year to start seedlings and to start planting. The best way to start plants from seeds is to first start them in small containers and then plant them into the ground once they have taken root and grown a little. I find it is cheapest, easiest, and most eco-friendly to use cardboard egg cartons to start seedlings. To start simply fill each mold halfway with a damp seed-starting potting mix. Then either sprinkle on or push in the seeds into each mold and cover with a very thin layer of the potting mix. Make sure you label each mold. Place the entire container in a window that gets plenty of sun for when the seedlings sprout. Make sure to keep the plant damp but not wet. Whenever the seedlings are large enough to successfully survive outside (this depends on the plant) cut the molds apart and plant the entire mold into the soil.
